Description

This Food Network Kitchen’s Flag Cake is a delightful layered dessert that features vibrant colors and delicious flavors, perfect for summer celebrations and patriotic gatherings.


Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 ½ cups granulated sugar

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

4 large eggs

1 cup buttermilk

1 tablespoon baking powder

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

½ teaspoon salt

Red and blue food coloring

Whipped cream for frosting

Fresh berries for garnish


Instructions

1. 1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

2. 2. Grease and flour three 8-inch round cake pans.

3. 3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

4. 4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.

5. 5. Stir in buttermilk, vanilla, baking powder, and salt until combined.

6. 6. Divide the batter into three bowls. Color one portion red, another blue, and leave the third uncolored.

7. 7. Pour the red batter into one pan, blue into another, and plain into the last pan.

8. 8. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.

9. 9. Cool the cakes in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

10. 10. Once cooled, frost the top of each layer with whipped cream and stack them.

11. 11. Decorate the top with fresh berries to create a flag design.

Notes
