Soft, fluffy dough is infused with rich cocoa and a vibrant red color, then swirled with a creamy filling and baked to perfection. Top them off with a smooth cream cheese frosting for an indulgent, romantic breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients

– 2 cups all-purpose flour

– 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

– 1/4 cup granulated sugar

– 1 teaspoon baking powder

– 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

– 1/4 teaspoon salt

– 3/4 cup buttermilk

– 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

– 2 tablespoons red food coloring

Filling:

– 4 ounces cream cheese, softened

– 1/4 cup powdered sugar

– 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Cream Cheese Frosting:

– 4 ounces cream cheese, softened

– 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

– 2 cups powdered sugar

– 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

1. 1. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Grease a 9-inch round baking pan.

2. 2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

3. 3. In a separate bowl, combine the buttermilk, melted butter, and red food coloring.

4. 4. Pour the buttermilk mixture into the flour mixture and stir just until a soft dough forms.

5. 5. On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough into a 12×8-inch rectangle.

6. 6. In a small bowl, mix the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla for the filling.

7. 7. Spread the filling evenly over the dough, leaving a 1/2-inch border.

8. 8. Starting from the short side, tightly roll up the dough into a log. Cut the log into 8 equal pieces.

9. 9. Place the rolls in the prepared baking pan, spacing them apart.

10. 10. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until the rolls are puffed and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

11. 11. While the rolls bake, make the cream cheese frosting. In a medium bowl, beat the cream cheese and butter until smooth.

12. 12. Add the powdered sugar and vanilla, and beat until light and fluffy.

13. 13. Remove the rolls from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes. Spread the cream cheese frosting over the warm rolls.

14. 14. Serve the Red Velvet Valentine’s Day Cinnamon Rolls warm, and enjoy!

Notes

– For a more intense red color, add an additional 1-2 tablespoons of red food coloring.

– Substitute cream cheese frosting with a vanilla or cream cheese glaze if preferred.

– Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
