Description

Indulge in the irresistible flavors of New Orleans with these homemade Cafe du Monde-style beignets. Fluffy, pillowy-soft, and dusted in powdered sugar, these beignets are a melt-in-your-mouth delight.

Ingredients

– 1 cup warm water

– 1 package active dry yeast

– 1/4 cup granulated sugar

– 1/2 teaspoon salt

– 2 cups all-purpose flour

– 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted

– Vegetable oil for frying

– Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

1. – In a large bowl, combine the warm water, yeast, and sugar. Allow to sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.

2. – Add the salt, flour, and melted butter to the yeast mixture. Stir until a soft dough forms.

3. – Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 2-3 minutes until smooth and elastic.

4. – Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

5. – Punch down the dough and roll out on a lightly floured surface to 1/4-inch thickness.

6. – Cut the dough into 2-inch squares using a sharp knife or pizza cutter.

7. – In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat 2-3 inches of vegetable oil to 350°F.

8. – Carefully add the dough squares to the hot oil and fry for 1-2 minutes per side, or until golden brown.

9. – Remove the beignets with a slotted spoon and transfer to a paper towel-lined plate.

10. – Dust the warm beignets generously with powdered sugar and serve immediately.

Notes

For best results, serve the beignets fresh and warm. They can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days, but the texture and flavor will be best when enjoyed immediately.
