Description

Ful Medames is a traditional Egyptian breakfast dish made with fava beans, tahini, and a blend of flavorful spices. This creamy, protein-packed meal is a delicious and nourishing way to start your day.

Ingredients

– 1 cup dried fava beans, soaked overnight and drained

– 3 cloves garlic, minced

– 1/4 cup tahini

– 2 tablespoons lemon juice

– 2 tablespoons olive oil

– 1 teaspoon ground cumin

– 1/2 teaspoon ground coriander

– 1/4 teaspoon ground caraway seeds

– Salt and pepper to taste

– Chopped parsley for garnish

Instructions

1. – In a medium saucepan, cover the soaked fava beans with water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes, until the beans are very soft.

2. – Drain the beans and transfer to a large bowl. Use a potato masher or the back of a fork to mash the beans until they’re creamy and smooth.

3. – Add the minced garlic, tahini, lemon juice, olive oil, cumin, coriander, caraway, salt, and pepper. Stir until well combined.

4. – Taste and adjust seasoning as needed. Serve warm, garnished with chopped parsley.

Notes

– For a smoother texture, you can blend the mashed beans in a food processor.

– Experiment with toppings like chopped onions, diced tomatoes, or a drizzle of hot sauce.

– Ful Medames can be served with pita bread, flatbread, or fresh vegetables for dipping.
