Description

Indulge in the irresistible flavors of French onion soup with these bite-sized treats! Featuring a rich, caramelized onion filling and a melty, cheesy topping, these French Onion Soup Bites are the perfect savory snack or appetizer.

Ingredients

– 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced

– 2 tbsp unsalted butter

– 1 cup beef broth

– 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

– 1 tsp fresh thyme, chopped

– Salt and pepper to taste

– 12 slices French bread, cubed

– 2 cups shredded Gruyère cheese

Instructions

1. – Preheat oven to 400°F.

2. – In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until caramelized and deeply golden brown, about 20-25 minutes.

3. – Deglaze the pan with the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer for 5 minutes, then stir in the fresh thyme. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

4. – Arrange the French bread cubes in a single layer on a baking sheet. Spoon the caramelized onion mixture evenly over the bread cubes.

5. – Top each bread cube with a generous amount of shredded Gruyère cheese.

6. – Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

7. – Serve the French Onion Soup Bites warm, garnished with additional fresh thyme if desired.

Notes

For a richer flavor, you can use a combination of Gruyère and Parmesan cheeses. The bites can also be made in advance and reheated in the oven before serving.
