Description

Indulge in the bold, comforting flavors of French onion soup with these easy-to-make French Onion Beef Sloppy Joes. Tender ground beef simmers in a rich, caramelized onion gravy, creating a mouthwatering filling that’s perfect for serving on soft, toasted buns.

Ingredients

– 1 pound ground beef

– 2 large onions, thinly sliced

– 2 cups beef broth

– 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

– 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard

– 1 teaspoon garlic powder

– 1 teaspoon dried thyme

– 1/2 teaspoon salt

– 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

– 8 soft hamburger buns, toasted

– 2 cups shredded Gruyère or Swiss cheese (optional)

Instructions

1. – In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat.

2. – Add the sliced onions to the skillet and cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions are very soft and caramelized, about 15-20 minutes.

3. – Pour in the beef broth and stir in the Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, thyme, salt, and pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer and let it cook for 10-15 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.

4. – Divide the French Onion Beef Sloppy Joe mixture evenly among the toasted buns. Top with shredded Gruyère or Swiss cheese, if desired.

5. – Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

For a creamier texture, you can stir in a tablespoon or two of heavy cream or sour cream to the sloppy joe mixture just before serving. If you prefer a tangier flavor, add a splash of red wine vinegar or balsamic vinegar to the onions as they caramelize.
