Description

Indulge in the savory, caramelized flavors of this classic French Onion and Mushroom Tart, topped with melted, golden-brown gruyere cheese. This effortless recipe comes together in just 30 minutes, making it the perfect comforting main dish or appetizer.

Ingredients

– 1 sheet of puff pastry, thawed

– 3 large onions, thinly sliced

– 8 oz. cremini mushrooms, sliced

– 2 tbsp olive oil

– 2 cloves garlic, minced

– 1 tsp fresh thyme, chopped

– 1/4 cup dry white wine

– 1 cup shredded gruyere cheese

– Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

1. 1. Preheat oven to 400°F.

2. 2. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until caramelized and golden brown.

3. 3. Add the sliced mushrooms and garlic to the skillet. Sauté for an additional 5 minutes, until the mushrooms are tender.

4. 4. Deglaze the pan with the white wine, scraping up any browned bits. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the wine has evaporated.

5. 5. Season the onion-mushroom mixture with salt, pepper, and fresh thyme.

6. 6. Unroll the puff pastry and press it into a 9-inch tart pan with a removable bottom. Prick the bottom with a fork.

7. 7. Spread the caramelized onion and mushroom mixture evenly over the puff pastry. Top with the shredded gruyere cheese.

8. 8. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until the pastry is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.

9. 9. Allow the tart to cool for 5-10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

– For a richer flavor, use a mix of onions like yellow, red, and shallots.

– Swap in different cheese varieties like fontina or parmesan if desired.

– Serve the tart as a main dish with a side salad or as an appetizer.
