Description

Discover the captivating floral notes of homemade Fireweed Syrup, a cherished Alaskan tradition. This versatile sweetener is perfect for drizzling over pancakes, waffles, or using in baking for a truly unforgettable experience.

Ingredients

– 2 cups fresh fireweed flowers

– 2 cups granulated sugar

– 2 cups water

Instructions

1. – In a medium saucepan, combine the fireweed flowers, sugar, and water.

2. – Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring frequently to dissolve the sugar.

3. – Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 10-15 minutes, until the syrup has thickened slightly.

4. – Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the syrup cool for 30 minutes.

5. – Strain the syrup through a fine-mesh sieve, pressing on the solids to extract as much liquid as possible.

6. – Transfer the strained syrup to a clean glass jar or bottle and refrigerate until ready to use.

Notes

– The syrup can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

– For a thicker consistency, simmer the syrup for a few minutes longer.

– Adjust the sugar to taste, adding more for a sweeter syrup or less for a more floral flavor.
