Ingredients
– 3 cups (375g) all-purpose flour
– 1 teaspoon (5g) active dry yeast
– 1 teaspoon (6g) salt
– 1 1/4 cups (295ml) warm water
– 1/4 cup (60ml) olive oil, plus more for drizzling
– Assorted edible flowers (such as nasturtiums, violas, or marigolds)
Instructions
1. – In a large bowl, combine the flour, yeast, and salt. Stir to mix.
2. – Add the warm water and olive oil, then knead the dough until it comes together and becomes smooth and elastic, about 5-7 minutes.
3. – Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
4. – Punch down the dough to release any air bubbles. Press the dough into a greased 9×13-inch baking pan, then cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
5. – Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
6. – Arrange the edible flowers on top of the focaccia dough, pressing them gently to adhere.
7. – Drizzle the top with additional olive oil.
8. – Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the focaccia is golden brown.
9. – Remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
– Experiment with different types of edible flowers to find your favorite combination.
– Store any leftover focaccia in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
