Ingredients
– 2 cups all-purpose flour
– 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
– 1/4 cup white sugar
– 1/4 teaspoon salt
– 1/2 cup warm milk
– 2 large eggs
– 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
– Vegetable oil for frying
– Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
1. – In a large bowl, combine the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt.
2. – Add the warm milk, eggs, and 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. Knead the dough until it’s smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes.
3. – Cover the dough and let it rest for 15 minutes.
4. – Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and roll each piece into a ball.
5. – Heat 2-3 inches of vegetable oil in a large pot or Dutch oven to 350°F.
6. – Fry the dough balls in batches for 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown.
7. – Drain the fried donuts on a paper towel-lined plate and dust generously with powdered sugar while still warm.
8. – Serve the Bánh Tiêu (Vietnamese Donuts!) warm and enjoy!
Notes
For best results, use a neutral-flavored oil like vegetable or canola oil for frying. The donuts are best enjoyed fresh, but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
